PLEASANT VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Sutton, MA, USA
Designed by Don Hoenig

Pleasant Valley Country Club sits in the rolling countryside of central Massachusetts, about ten miles south of Worcester. The course was designed by Don Hoenig and opened in the mid-1960s, quickly establishing itself as a championship-caliber layout capable of hosting professional tournament golf. The property features varied terrain with elevation changes, mature tree-lined fairways, and water hazards that come into play on several holes.
The course gained national prominence as the longtime host of the Pleasant Valley Classic, a PGA Tour event that ran from 1965 through the early 1980s. The tournament attracted many of the era's top professionals and produced notable champions during its run on the tour schedule. This competitive history helped establish Pleasant Valley's reputation as a demanding test that rewards accurate driving and precise iron play.
The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes moving through wooded corridors and across more open terrain. Several holes feature strategic bunkering and well-protected greens that require thoughtful course management. The layout presents a traditional New England country club experience, with the design emphasizing shot values and strategic options rather than excessive length.
Pleasant Valley operates as a private club serving the Sutton and greater Worcester area. The facility maintains the classic parkland character typical of northeastern courses from its era, with mature hardwoods framing many holes and seasonal color adding to the setting during spring and fall rounds.
