TROON NORTH GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Designed by Tom Weiskopf
Troon North's Monument Course, carved into the Sonoran Desert landscape north of Scottsdale, is where desert golf earns its fearsome reputation. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, with a 1995 opening, the modern-era course isn't about gentle introduction; it throws players directly into the harsh beauty and strategic demands of the Arizona terrain.
The layout favors a power fade, rewarding those who can shape the ball against the natural contours. With dramatic elevation changes and expansive fairways guarded by saguaro cacti and rock formations, the Monument Course tests a golfer’s nerve as much as their skill. It’s not a course for the faint of heart, demanding aggressive drives and precise approaches into undulating greens.
Though it hasn't hosted major championships, the Monument course remains a highly regarded test for amateurs and pros alike and is a frequent destination for corporate outings and high-stakes member games. The club is known locally for its close-knit membership, drawn to the challenging course and the convivial atmosphere in the clubhouse after a round. Locals will note, however, to pack extra balls if you're playing the tips.
Reviews
Amazing mountain views, giant boulders and saguaros on every hole. This is what desert golf is all about.
Good public track in Scottsdale, nothing great
Keep your ball in the fairway here
Really a pretty cool course. I played after 2pm so got a pretty large discount when I was there March of 2024. They also offered a 1/2 off Junior rate which helps me save some money when golfing. The course was in overall pretty good shape. The greens had taken a beating with ball marks. I loved the monument hole where the large rock / monument was in the middle of the fairway. The views and scenery were so incredible.
