THE PINNACLE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Mabank, TX, USA
Designed by Don January

The Pinnacle Golf Club sits on the shores of Cedar Creek Lake in Mabank, Texas, roughly an hour southeast of Dallas. Designed by Don January, a PGA Tour veteran and major champion who turned to course architecture after his playing career, the layout takes advantage of the rolling East Texas terrain and lakeside setting. January, who won the 1967 PGA Championship and played on two Ryder Cup teams, brought a player's perspective to his design work, creating courses that emphasize strategic shot-making over pure length.
The course features elevation changes uncommon in much of North Texas, with holes routed through wooded corridors of oak and pine as well as more open stretches that incorporate views of Cedar Creek Lake. The property's natural topography allows for varied hole designs, with doglegs that follow the land's contours and greens positioned to reward accurate approach play. Water comes into play on several holes, both from lake proximity and internal features.
As a semi-private facility in a lake community setting, The Pinnacle serves both members and outside play, functioning as a recreational amenity for the Cedar Creek Lake area. The course provides a traditional parkland experience characteristic of Texas golf in the 1990s and early 2000s, when many lake-area courses were developed to serve the Dallas-Fort Worth region's growing population of weekend golfers and second-home owners.
