PINE TRACE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Rochester Hills, MI, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills

Pine Trace Golf Club opened in 1988 as part of the residential development boom in Oakland County's northern suburbs. Arthur Hills designed the course on rolling terrain characteristic of southeastern Michigan, incorporating mature stands of pine, oak, and maple throughout the property. The layout takes advantage of natural elevation changes uncommon in the region, with several holes playing across ridges and into valleys that create both visual interest and strategic variety.
The routing moves through distinct landscape zones, with the front nine generally more open and the back nine tightening through denser tree corridors. Water comes into play on roughly half the holes, including ponds and wetland areas that Hills integrated into the design rather than creating artificial hazards. The par-3s offer particular variety in length and club selection, while the par-5s reward accurate positioning over pure distance. Bunkering follows Hills's characteristic style from this period—sculptured sand complexes that frame landing areas and greenside approaches without excessive penal intent.
Pine Trace operates as a semi-private facility, balancing member play with public access. The course has hosted regional amateur events and qualifiers over the years, serving as a competitive test for Michigan golfers. Conditioning standards remain consistent with the expectations of Oakland County's golf market, where numerous quality daily-fee and semi-private courses compete for play. The clubhouse provides standard amenities including a restaurant and banquet facilities that serve both golf outings and community events.
