The Hideaway Club's Pete Dye Course sits in La Quinta, California, within the Coachella Valley's desert golf corridor. Designed by Perry Dye, son of legendary architect Pete Dye, the course reflects the family's design philosophy while adapting to the desert terrain and mountain backdrop characteristic of this region. The routing works through natural desert landscape with elevation changes that provide views across the valley toward the Santa Rosa Mountains.
Perry Dye's work here incorporates elements familiar to those who know the Dye design vocabulary: strategic bunkering, thoughtful use of water features, and green complexes that reward precision. The desert setting means native vegetation frames many holes, with fairways carved through the natural landscape rather than imposed upon it. Players encounter risk-reward scenarios throughout the round, with options to challenge hazards or play conservatively depending on skill level and conditions.
The Hideaway Club operates as a private residential community, and the Pete Dye Course serves as one of its amenities alongside other facilities. The course benefits from the desert climate's playability much of the year, though summer temperatures can be extreme. Like many La Quinta area courses, it draws members and guests seeking golf in a setting that balances challenge with the visual appeal of desert mountain scenery. The design fits within the broader collection of desert courses in the region, offering a Perry Dye interpretation of strategic golf in this distinctive California landscape.
Reviews
Desert bangers continue. Course played extremely firm and fast which was super fun. Firmness protected the course nicely and Dye usually nails the risk/reward profile. Challenging but enjoyable. Company was also A+.
