PENSACOLA COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pensacola, FL, USA
Designed by Jerry Pate

Pensacola Country Club, a venerable institution in the heart of Pensacola, whispers tales of a bygone era when golf course design prioritized strategic challenge over raw length. Laid out along the bluffs overlooking Pensacola Bay, the terrain is a captivating mix of gently rolling hills and dramatic coastal vistas. The course favors a strategic player, one who can navigate the doglegs and cleverly placed bunkers that punish wayward drives, where one might encounter difficult lies and elevated green complexes.
Originally designed by legendary architect Donald Ross in 1926, Pensacola Country Club underwent a sensitive restoration by Bill Bergin in the early 2000s, reinforcing Ross’s original vision while subtly modernizing the course for today's game. Bergin’s work accentuated the contours of the greens and restored the strategic intent of Ross’s bunkering.
While not a regular stop on the professional tour, Pensacola Country Club has long been a fixture in regional amateur golf circles. The club is also known for its strong member camaraderie, fostered perhaps by the challenging yet rewarding layout and the stunning sunsets over the bay, best enjoyed from the clubhouse veranda with their famous Bushwhacker cocktail in hand.
Reviews
Course has a really great layout and challenging holes, but the condition just wasn’t great. The course has yet to recover from being aerated and greens were heavily sanded because of it. Mid 8 course in perfect conditions.
