Pecanwood at Pecanwood Golf and Country Club

Pecanwood Golf and Country Club sits on the southern shores of Hartbeespoort Dam in South Africa's North West Province, approximately an hour's drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria. Jack Nicklaus designed the course in the mid-1990s as part of a residential estate development, routing eighteen holes through bushveld terrain that slopes down to the water's edge. The property offers views across the dam to the Magaliesberg mountain range, and the layout incorporates the natural topography and indigenous vegetation characteristic of the region.

The course plays along and above the shoreline, with several holes positioned directly on the water. Nicklaus used the elevation changes and the dam as strategic elements, creating holes that require careful club selection and course management. The routing moves through a mix of open and wooded areas, with fairways framed by bushveld scrub and rock outcroppings. Water comes into play on multiple holes, both from the dam itself and from internal features.

Pecanwood operates as a private country club with residential components, serving members from the greater Gauteng area. The estate setting includes lodging and dining facilities that cater to both golf and leisure activities around the dam.
