PASO ROBLES GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Paso Robles, CA, USA
Designed by Bert Stamps

Paso Robles Golf Club sits in the heart of California's Central Coast wine country, where the town of Paso Robles has long served as a midpoint between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Designed by Bert Stamps and opened in the mid-twentieth century, the course reflects the straightforward, accessible design philosophy common to many California municipal and semi-private layouts of that era. The routing takes advantage of the region's rolling terrain, with fairways that move through oak-dotted hillsides characteristic of the inland valleys east of the coastal range.
The landscape here differs markedly from coastal California courses, with a drier climate that produces firmer conditions and golden-brown hues through much of the year. Mature oaks frame many holes, providing both visual definition and strategic interest, while elevation changes create variety in shot-making demands. The design emphasizes playability for a range of skill levels, with generous landing areas balanced by well-positioned hazards that reward thoughtful course management.
Paso Robles Golf Club functions as a community gathering place in a town better known for its vineyards and agricultural heritage than for golf. The facility serves both local members and visitors exploring the wine region, offering a relaxed atmosphere that reflects the area's unpretentious character. The course provides a traditional Central Coast golf experience, where the focus remains on the game itself rather than elaborate amenities, fitting naturally into a landscape shaped by ranching and viticulture.
Reviews
What a weird course. The front 9 is way more difficult than the back 9. Tons of houses. Narrow corridors with weird landing areas (either carries or limits to carries). I detested the front 9. Back 9 starts with a 460+ par 4 that feels like it should be a par 5? The back feels more open and traditional. I found it more interesting. Overall this course was a let down and the best thing about it was the restaurant. Great food and drinks. Fantastic draft list. Golf wise I’d rather go play Hunter Ranch.
