ROYAL GOLF CLUB OF BELGIUM
🇧🇪 Tervuren, Vlaams-Brabant, BE
Designed by Mackenzie Ross
The Parc course at Royal Golf Club of Belgium occupies historic parkland in Tervuren, just east of Brussels in the Flemish Brabant region. Designed by Mackenzie Ross and opened in 1953, the layout represents the Scottish architect's work on the continent during the post-war period when he was also engaged in restoring and redesigning several notable British courses. Ross routed the course through mature woodland and gently rolling terrain that had been part of the royal estate, giving the holes a secluded, established character despite the mid-century construction date.
The course plays through corridors of beech, oak, and pine, with elevation changes that are modest but sufficient to create varied stances and strategic interest. Ross employed his characteristic bunkering style—relatively spare but carefully positioned to influence play from the tee and around the greens. The routing takes advantage of natural contours, and several holes feature doglegs that reward accurate placement over pure distance. Water comes into play on a few holes, though the primary defenses are the trees, which narrow driving zones and demand precision with approach shots.
Royal Golf Club of Belgium has hosted numerous Belgian national championships and international amateur events, establishing the Parc course as one of the country's principal tournament venues. The club maintains a traditional European golf atmosphere, with a clubhouse that reflects the formal character of continental golf institutions. The course remains a well-regarded example of Ross's design philosophy adapted to the forested parkland setting of central Belgium.
