PARADISE CANYON GOLF CLUB
🇨🇦 Lethbridge, Alberta, CA
Designed by Bill Newis
Paradise Canyon Golf Club occupies a dramatic natural landscape carved by the Oldman River in southern Alberta, approximately ten minutes from downtown Lethbridge. Designed by Bill Newis and opened in the late 1990s, the course takes full advantage of the deep coulees and elevation changes characteristic of this prairie river valley. The routing descends more than 200 feet from the highest points on the property to the canyon floor, creating significant variety in both playing angles and visual perspectives across the eighteen holes.
The design incorporates the natural contours and native grasses of the Alberta badlands, with several holes playing along ridgelines and others dropping into protected valleys. The contrast between exposed plateau holes and sheltered canyon stretches gives the course a distinct sense of movement and drama. Wind is often a factor on the upper elevations, while the lower holes offer more protection and different strategic considerations.
Paradise Canyon serves as a daily-fee facility and has developed a reputation as one of the more distinctive public-access courses in the Alberta region. The property's natural features—including views across the river valley and the surrounding prairie landscape—provide a setting quite different from typical parkland courses found elsewhere in the province. The course attracts both local golfers and visitors exploring southern Alberta's golf offerings.
