PANTHER VALLEY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Allamuchy, NJ, USA
Designed by Finger Dye Spann, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Roger Rulewich

Panther Valley Golf & Country Club sits in the rolling terrain of Warren County in northwestern New Jersey, approximately an hour west of New York City. The course occupies land characterized by the wooded hills and natural elevation changes typical of the region's Highlands physiographic province. The property's topography provides varied playing corridors through mature hardwood forests, with several holes featuring significant grade changes that influence both strategy and shot selection.
The design history reflects contributions from multiple architects over time. Robert Trent Jones Jr. was involved in the original routing, while the firms of Finger Dye Spann and Roger Rulewich—both with extensive experience in renovation and restoration work—have contributed to subsequent modifications and refinements. This collaborative evolution is not uncommon for private clubs seeking to adapt layouts to modern playing standards while preserving original design intent.
The course routing takes advantage of the natural landscape, moving through corridors of deciduous forest with occasional openings that provide views across the surrounding hills. Elevation changes create a variety of approach shot angles and green complexes that demand accurate distance control. Water features appear on several holes, adding strategic considerations to club selection and shot placement.
Panther Valley operates as a private country club serving members from the northwestern New Jersey region and nearby areas of Pennsylvania. The club provides traditional country club amenities including dining facilities and social programming alongside its golf course.
Reviews
Just a really weird place overall. Extremely hilly course with a ton of elevation change. Conditions were fine, but inconsistent as the course is on the side of a mountain. Some great variety with the layout, but no really great holes. Last 4 holes are really flat and uninteresting which unfortunately ends the round on a sour note.
I play this a few times a year in charity events and as a guest. Recently sold so let’s see if the new owners keep it up. After you get by a quirky 1st hole and a very long up hill par 3 for the second hole, the course becomes a good mix of challenges and birdie opportunities
