PALMILLA BEACH GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Port Aransas, TX, USA
Designed by Arnold Palmer

Palmilla Beach Golf Club occupies a narrow strip of barrier island land in Port Aransas, Texas, where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Laguna Madre bay system. Designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in the early 2000s, the course navigates the challenging constraints of coastal terrain with limited elevation change and persistent wind. The routing works within the island's natural contours, incorporating wetlands and native dune vegetation that characterize the Texas Gulf Coast landscape.
The layout reflects Palmer's approach to resort-style golf in a coastal setting, with strategic bunkering and water features that come into play on several holes. Wind direction and intensity significantly influence club selection and strategy throughout the round, as is typical of barrier island courses. The proximity to both bay and gulf creates a maritime atmosphere, with views of water and coastal grasses defining the visual character.
Port Aransas serves as a recreational fishing and beach community on Mustang Island, and Palmilla Beach functions within this casual coastal resort context. The course provides golf access in a region of Texas where traditional parkland or hill country designs are geographically impossible, offering instead the distinctive challenges of links-style conditions adapted to Gulf Coast ecology. The club operates as part of the island's tourism and residential infrastructure, serving both visitors and local players drawn to seaside golf in South Texas.
Reviews
A 9 hole track just off the gulf. Several holes with great ocean views. Played in freezing weather and howling wind but it was a nice little hidden gem. Also has a 3 hole route of 80-100 yard par 3’s. Hidden gem!
Palmer design shortened to 9 holes due to Hurricane Harvey. Beautiful and tough with wind.
