OLYMPIC HILLS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Eden Prairie, MN, USA
Designed by Charles Maddox
Olympic Hills Golf Club sits in Eden Prairie, a southwestern suburb of Minneapolis, where residential development and preserved natural areas meet the rolling terrain characteristic of Minnesota's glacial landscape. Charles Maddox designed the course, which opened in the mid-1960s during a period of significant golf course construction in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The layout reflects the era's emphasis on playable public golf that could accommodate a range of skill levels while working with the property's natural contours.
The course occupies land with moderate elevation changes and mature tree cover, typical of the region's oak and maple woodlands. Maddox routed holes through corridors that require accuracy off the tee, with fairways that move over and around the property's hills. Water features appear on several holes, adding strategic considerations for approach shots and club selection. The design incorporates the kind of straightforward risk-reward decisions common to courses built for daily-fee play in suburban settings.
Olympic Hills serves as a neighborhood course for Eden Prairie and surrounding communities, offering accessible golf in a market where public facilities have long played an important role. The club operates with a focus on recreational play and local league activity. Its location within the western Twin Cities suburbs places it among numerous courses that serve the region's active golfing population, particularly during Minnesota's concentrated playing season from late spring through early fall.
Reviews
Some say it's the best in the Twin Cities and while I may not agree, it can feel like it on the right day. Could play here the rest of my life, which says a lot. Every club in your bag, most of the shots you can imagine, and all of the fun you hope to have on a course. One drawback: the music around the putting green kills me.
Great conditions, crazy greens. Bit of a weird routing down and up through a neighborhood. Extremely hard. Thorough test of your game, lots of ejections out here.
Most underrated course in the state, definitely a top 3 course in the state as well.
