OLDE LIBERTY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Youngsville, NC, USA
Designed by Joe Moulin, Michael Gleason

Olde Liberty Golf & Country Club, nestled in the rolling countryside of Franklinton, North Carolina, presents a challenging yet inviting experience for golfers of all skill levels. Designed in the late 1990s, the course unfolds across a terrain characterized by gently undulating hills and mature hardwood forests, a departure from the flatter coastal plains typically associated with eastern North Carolina golf. This parkland layout features generous fairways that subtly reward controlled aggression, but strategically placed bunkers and subtle elevation changes around the greens penalize wayward approaches. The course, while not known as a major championship venue, is challenging in its own right and demands strategic course management.
Architect David Postlethwait is the hand behind Olde Liberty's design. Postlethwait crafted a course that emphasizes playability, ensuring a fun experience for members and guests. The layout is known for its challenging par-3s, each demanding precise club selection and accuracy to navigate the well-guarded greens.
Beyond the course, Olde Liberty fosters a sense of community among its members. While not steeped in centuries of tradition, the club's welcoming atmosphere and active social calendar have cultivated a loyal following in the region. A favorite of the membership is the club's famous fried chicken, a regular post-round indulgence that embodies the club’s unpretentious, Southern charm.
Reviews
This might be the worst course I’ve ever played. The only reason I’m giving it a 1 instead of a 0 is the guy who runs the pro shop was super nice and the course/beer was cheap. Olde Liberty is forsure a muni but with all the worst parts emphasized. The pace of play is brutal, no one would let us play through, and the conditions are horrible. At one point we were waiting behind a 6 some with no one infront of them and they still wouldn’t let us play through. The ranger came around and didn’t do anything about it either. I’d guess around half my drives that landed in the fairway I was hitting off a dirt patch for my next shot. If all this wasn’t bad enough also almost all the greens had dirt patches and where it was grass it was just covered in unrepaired pitch marks. Wouldn’t really recommend any of my friends to go play here.
