OLDE KINDERHOOK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Valatie, NY, USA
Designed by Rees Jones
Olde Kinderhook occupies rolling farmland in Columbia County, New York, roughly twenty miles south of Albany in the Hudson Valley region. Rees Jones designed the course in the mid-1990s, routing it across terrain that features elevation changes, mature hardwood trees, and several ponds and wetland areas. The property takes its name from the historic Dutch settlement patterns of the region, and the layout reflects Jones's characteristic approach of blending strategic bunkering with natural landforms.
The course measures over 7,100 yards from the championship tees and plays as a par 72. Jones incorporated the existing topography into holes that move through meadows and wooded corridors, with water coming into play on roughly half the holes. The design emphasizes accuracy off the tee, as fairways often narrow at landing zones and are framed by native grasses and tree lines. Several greens are elevated or protected by deep bunkers, requiring precise approach shots.
Olde Kinderhook operates as a semi-private facility, offering both member and daily-fee play. The course serves golfers from the Capital District and the broader Hudson Valley, and the clubhouse overlooks the eighteenth green with views extending across the surrounding countryside. The layout provides a test of golf that reflects Jones's focus on shot values and course conditioning, set within a landscape that retains much of its agricultural character.
