THE BREAKERS RESORT
🇺🇸 Palm Beach, FL, USA
Designed by Alex Findlay, Brian Silva
Ocean Course at The Breakers is a testament to Palm Beach's early sporting ambitions, a layout that initially drew socialites and sporting enthusiasts to the island in the early 20th century. A classic, yet bold design.
The course plays unlike many of the seaside courses in the area. Having been originally conceived in the early golden age, Ocean has evolved into a playable modern design, keeping many of the unique characteristics. Fairways meander through mature palms, strategically placed bunkers, and subtle elevation changes that belie its oceanside locale. Accuracy and a deft short game are rewarded here, as the course subtly favors those who can manage the ever-present coastal breezes.
Originally designed by a largely forgotten golden age architect, it saw subtle but key course enhancements at the hands of Rees Jones, who subtly lengthened some holes, tweaked bunker placements, and brought the course up to modern play and conditioning standards. While it has not played host to any major championships, Ocean Course has been the site of countless member-guest events and club championships, all fiercely contested.
Today, the Ocean Course remains a treasured amenity for members and guests of The Breakers, a welcoming, social club and hotel that draws on its heritage to create a warm and inviting golf community. It's a place where the spirit of friendly competition and social camaraderie are celebrated in equal measure, the quintessential Palm Beach experience.
Reviews
Very well manicured, maybe the easiest course I’ve played. No danger on average outside of maybe 3 approach shots?
