NEW SEABURY COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Mashpee, MA, USA
Designed by William F. Mitchell
Ocean Course at New Seabury, a cornerstone of Cape Cod golf since the early 1960s, unfurls across a landscape sculpted by the very winds that define the region. A classic resort-style layout, the Ocean, with generous fairways and relatively gentle greens, offers a more forgiving test than it's sister course, the Dunes. The terrain, while not dramatically undulating, presents subtle challenges for approach shots, with prevailing breezes often dictating club selection, and favoring players with steady hands.
Original architect William Mitchell's vision was enhanced by Geoffrey Cornish, who breathed new life into the course over the years. A more recent face-lift by Bruce Hepner further refined the playing experience while respecting the course's enduring character. While the Ocean Course may not claim the fame of hosting major championships, it stands as a beloved staple for generations of Cape Cod golfers.
The spirit of the Ocean Course extends beyond the game itself. The club is known for its strong member base, many of whom have enjoyed the course for decades, often recounting tales of close matches and memorable seaside rounds. It's a place where the camaraderie is as valued as the scorecard, and where the simple pleasure of a well-struck shot is amplified by the stunning coastal backdrop. A staple after the round is the the clubhouse, with the "19th hole" offering a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy local seafood, capping off a day on the links with classic Cape Cod fare.
