HALF MOON BAY GOLF LINKS
🇺🇸 Half Moon Bay, CA, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills

Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links, clinging to the dramatic bluffs above the Pacific, is where the untamed spirit of links golf collides with the raw beauty of the California coast. The relentless wind and undulating fescue fairways, a constant presence, define the challenge here.
Designed by Arthur Hills, with later refinements by his associate Ron Miller, the course carves its way along the rugged coastline, presenting panoramic ocean views from nearly every hole. The open layout, typical of its modern design, favors strategic play over sheer power; wind management, precise iron play, and creative short game skills are paramount for scoring well. The course has earned respect but not notoriety in the golf world; instead, it provides a stern yet picturesque test for golfers of all abilities.
Beyond the course itself, Half Moon Bay’s appeal lies in its dramatic setting. The crashing waves and invigorating sea air create an unforgettable experience. For many, the post-round tradition of savoring fresh seafood while watching the sunset over the Pacific is as much a part of the experience as the golf itself, epitomizing the relaxed, yet refined coastal lifestyle found in this unique Northern California enclave.
Reviews
Couldn’t have asked for a much better course to play with my dad out west. Birdied two holes on the back nine
The most incredible setting makes up for an otherwise weak routing
Truly stunning. One of the prettiest courses I’ve ever played. The greens had been punched a couple weeks ago, so they weren’t pure. You really can’t beat the views. Layout is good, but not mind blowing. You remember the scenery more than anything
For $260, Half Moon Bay’s Ocean Course is worth every cent. Nearly every hole opens up to the Pacific, and the generous fairways make it as fun as it is scenic. If you’re lucky, the marine layer rolls in and the wind kicks up - proper links-style golf that forces you to flight the ball and think your way around. In my opinion, that only makes it better. Ocean has its highlights, but 17 and 18 steal the show as you finish alongside the resort. If you only have time for one, tee it up on Ocean at first light. But if dawn isn’t an option, catching golden hour on Old’s 18th might give you one of the most unforgettable memories in golf.
Stunning experience at the ocean course. Greens were lunched two weeks before we played, so not best conditions. Recommend coming here during peak season. Beautiful course. Beware of lunch bill!!
Played awhile ago, don’t remember it too well
Love this course, played it at sunset. What a treat that was to play the last couple holes with the sun just glowing over the ocean. Can’t wait to get back.
Good course to play if you’re in the area. Expensive resort course and the pace of play wasn’t fantastic but beautiful scenery means you have something nice to look at while waiting for your next shot
