OAK QUARRY GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Riverside, CA, USA
Designed by Brian Curley, Dr. Gil Morgan, Lee E. Schmidt
Oak Quarry isn’t just carved into the Riverside landscape; it *is* the landscape, a defiant reclamation of a former rock quarry. The Schmidt-Curley design team leveraged the dramatic elevation changes and exposed rock faces to create a visually arresting and strategically challenging course that is equal parts brawn and beauty. With wide fairways that belie the trouble lurking off the short grass, and a layout favoring those who can move the ball left-to-right, Oak Quarry rewards bold play but punishes the careless.
Opened in 2000, Oak Quarry hasn't played host to events on the biggest tours, but its unique character and dramatic setting have made it a favorite among Southern California golfers looking for something different. The course’s distinct identity draws a passionate local membership. They are known for the annual "Quarry Cup" a multi-day event steeped in tradition and spirited competition.
The massive scale of the quarry setting ensures a sense of isolation on the course, despite its location near the city. Don't be surprised to see wildlife taking advantage of the ponds and natural areas crafted within the landscape.
Reviews
Location location location! Really fun course with some holes that feel like they were plucked right from those imaginary courses in the early 2000s Tiger Woods PGA tour games. Course was in great shape and will definitely be a spot I replay time and time again.
Feels like you’re golfing in the mountains. Pretty cool to hear the echo of your driver when you tee off. If you are a little wayward off the tees you’re most likely losing the ball unless you get a lucky rock bounce. 6th hole is awesome, and 16th is one of the most beautiful par 3s. Good track
Can play like a desert golf course. Some lost balls out there if you are crooked off the tee. I don't think they let you walk, which means I don't go very often. I'm told they finally made the switch and the first hole is now the old 17th. That's far better for all involved. Now the third hole is the drivable part four instead of number one. It's very pretty to look at.
Some good mountain type golf holes. 2 long par 3s. One of my favorites in the IE.
