OAK HILLS COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 San Antonio, TX, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast, Jay Morrish

Oak Hills Country Club occupies rolling terrain in north-central San Antonio, where the course navigates natural elevation changes and mature oak groves characteristic of the Texas Hill Country transition zone. The original layout was designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1922, making it one of the architect's southwestern works from his most prolific period. Tillinghast routed the course to take advantage of the property's natural contours and tree-lined corridors, establishing a traditional parkland character that has defined the club for a century.
Jay Morrish undertook a significant renovation that modernized the course while respecting Tillinghast's strategic principles. The design features medium-length par fours that reward positioning off the tee, with greens that exhibit subtle breaks and require careful approach play. The routing moves through stands of live oak and pecan trees, with several holes playing along or across natural drainage corridors that add both visual definition and strategic interest.
Oak Hills has hosted numerous regional and state championships over the decades, serving as a competitive venue for amateur golf in Texas. The club maintains a traditional private membership, with the course conditioning and playing characteristics reflecting its role as both a championship test and a daily-play layout for members. The combination of Tillinghast's original design concepts and Morrish's updates has preserved a course that balances historical architecture with contemporary playing standards.
