OAK BROOK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Oak Brook, IL, USA
Designed by Roger Packard
Oak Brook Golf Club is a private 18-hole facility located in the western Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Illinois. Designed by Roger Packard and opened in 1989, the course occupies land within a mature suburban setting characterized by established tree corridors and gently rolling terrain typical of the region. Packard, who worked extensively throughout the Midwest during the latter decades of the twentieth century, created a layout that integrates the natural topography with strategic bunkering and water features that come into play on several holes.
The routing moves through wooded sections and more open areas, requiring players to manage both distance and accuracy off the tee. Several holes incorporate water hazards that influence club selection and approach strategy, while the green complexes feature moderate undulation and are protected by bunkers positioned to challenge approach shots from various angles. The course serves as the centerpiece of a residential community and reflects the design priorities of its era, balancing playability for members of varying skill levels with enough challenge to maintain interest for accomplished players.
Oak Brook Golf Club operates as a traditional private club with a membership drawn largely from the surrounding western suburbs. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse that serves as a social hub for members throughout the golf season, which runs from spring through fall in the northern Illinois climate.
Reviews
SKIP! Overpriced for a subpar layout. Conditions are fair, truly nothing to write home about. Pro shop guys are solid though.
The layout was brutal and course clearly sees a ton of play. Every putt got airborne as the ball would hop over pitch marks on the green. Did not love the front 9 where every hole was target golf. The highlight is definitely that one hole that butts up to Butler National.
