O'odham Course
Scottsdale, AZ, USA

O'odham, a golf experience born from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, offers a raw and authentic desert golf encounter east of Scottsdale. This is golf shaped by respect for the land and a commitment to showcasing the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw crafted two distinct courses at Talking Stick, Piipaash and O'odham, with O'odham characterized by its wide fairways and strategic bunkering. The generous playing surfaces encourage aggressive play, while the undulating greens demand a deft touch. Expect the wind to play a factor, especially in the afternoons, adding a layer of complexity to club selection and strategy. While not a regular stop on the professional tour schedule, O'odham provides a stern test for golfers of all abilities. The club fosters a welcoming atmosphere for both casual players and serious competitors, with a strong emphasis on camaraderie. Known locally for its impeccably maintained conditions and a challenging yet fair layout, the 18th hole, a challenging par 4, has ruined many otherwise solid rounds.

Golfers say Talking Stick stands out as an impressive design achievement by Coore and Crenshaw on completely flat desert terrain, with reviewers praising how the architects created strategic interest and scenic beauty despite the lack of natural elevation. Most note the course demands thoughtful shot-making and variety rather than pure power, with several holes offering compelling strategic choices. Reviewers find it worth playing when visiting Arizona, though some acknowledge it may not rank among the design team's most spectacular layouts overall.

Coore Crenshaw course ons flat piece of desert. Some really interesting holes and good strategy. Worth a playing if in AZ
Talking stick is one of Coors crenshaws best design feats. It’s not their best course, or their most beautiful, but considering this was a dead flat piece of desert, this golf course should be praised.
Classic Coore and Crenshaw, not brutal but you had to think. Course requires all kinds of shots not just bomb and gouge.
