Nuevo Portil at Golf Nuevo Portil

Golf Nuevo Portil sits along the Costa de la Luz in southwestern Andalusia, near the town of Cartaya and roughly midway between Huelva and the Portuguese border. Designed by Alfonso Vidaor and opened in the late 1980s, the course occupies coastal terrain characterized by umbrella pines, cork oaks, and Mediterranean scrubland. The routing takes advantage of gently rolling topography rather than dramatic elevation change, with fairways carved through established woodland that provides natural definition and separation between holes.

The layout measures over 6,000 meters from the back tees and presents a traditional parkland character adapted to the Andalusian coast. Vidaor's design emphasizes strategic bunkering and demands accuracy from the tee, as the tree-lined corridors reward position over pure distance. Several holes play along or across natural drainage areas, adding variety to what is otherwise a relatively straightforward test of golf. The greens are typically elevated and well-defended, requiring thoughtful approach play.

The course serves both resort visitors and local members, benefiting from its proximity to beach developments along this less-traveled stretch of Spanish coastline. The climate allows for year-round play, with conditions generally firm and fast outside the winter months. While not among Spain's most celebrated championship venues, Nuevo Portil offers a solid woodland experience in a region better known for links-style courses closer to the Atlantic dunes.
