GRAND CYPRESS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Orlando, FL, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

The North/South Course at Grand Cypress Golf Club represents one of Jack Nicklaus's early resort designs, opened in 1984 as part of a larger golf complex adjacent to Walt Disney World in Orlando. Nicklaus created three nine-hole loops at Grand Cypress—North, South, and East—that can be combined into different eighteen-hole configurations, with the North/South pairing being the most frequently played combination. The design reflects Nicklaus's philosophy of strategic golf that rewards thoughtful play while remaining accessible to resort guests of varying abilities.
The routing moves through Central Florida terrain characterized by wetlands, lakes, and stands of pine and cypress trees. Water features prominently throughout the layout, appearing on numerous holes and requiring carries and strategic decisions off the tee and into greens. The course incorporates generous fairway corridors typical of resort designs, but Nicklaus shaped the landing areas and green complexes to create interest and challenge for better players. Bunkering is substantial, with deep sand hazards protecting greens and framing driving zones.
Grand Cypress operates as a resort facility, serving guests of the adjacent Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress as well as outside play. The property has long been a fixture in Orlando's competitive golf market, offering a Nicklaus pedigree in a convenient location for visitors to the area's theme parks and convention facilities. The club also features the separate New Course, a links-inspired layout that Nicklaus designed later to evoke the Old Course at St. Andrews.
