North Hants at North Hants Golf Club

North Hants Golf Club in Fleet, Hampshire, represents a layered design history spanning much of the twentieth century. The course sits on heathland terrain characteristic of the Hampshire-Surrey border region, sharing geological and botanical features with better-known courses in the area. James Braid laid out the original routing, establishing the fundamental character on sandy, free-draining soil among heather, gorse, and mature pines. Harry S. Colt later contributed modifications, bringing his strategic sensibilities to the layout.

Tom Simpson added further refinements in the mid-twentieth century, and Donald Steel undertook more recent work to preserve and enhance the design's integrity. This succession of architects reflects the club's commitment to maintaining a course that respects its heathland setting while adapting to modern playing standards. The routing makes use of natural elevation changes and the property's wooded character, with holes moving through corridors of pine and across more open heathland sections.
