North at The Gallery Golf Club

The Gallery Golf Club's North Course sits in the Tortolita Mountains foothills northwest of Tucson, where the Sonoran Desert landscape provides a dramatic setting for golf. Designed by John Fought in collaboration with touring professional Tom Lehman and opened in 1998, the course occupies rugged terrain characterized by significant elevation changes, natural desert washes, and saguaro-studded hillsides. The routing takes advantage of the topography to create a variety of perspectives, with several holes playing across or along arroyos and others positioned on elevated plateaus that offer views across the surrounding basin.

The design philosophy emphasizes strategic options rather than forced carries, though the desert environment naturally frames many holes with native vegetation and rock outcroppings. Fought and Lehman incorporated wide fairways in places to accommodate different angles of approach, while green complexes feature contours that reward precise distance control. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, with par set at 72.

The Gallery property includes a second course (the South, designed by Fought alone) and has served as a tournament venue in the past, hosting PGA Tour events during the early 2000s. The club operates as a semi-private facility, allowing public access alongside member play. The desert setting requires maintenance practices adapted to the arid climate, with fairways and greens contrasting against the natural desert floor that defines much of the playing corridors.
