SILVER LAKE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Orland Park, IL, USA
Designed by Charles Maddox, Frank P. MacDonald

Silver Lake Country Club's North Course is located in Orland Park, a southwestern suburb of Chicago. The course was designed by Charles Maddox and Frank P. MacDonald, two architects who worked in the Midwest during the early-to-mid twentieth century. The club sits in an area that has transitioned from rural farmland to suburban development over the decades, though many Chicago-area clubs from this era retain mature tree plantings and established landscapes that provide definition and character to their layouts.
The North Course name suggests Silver Lake operates multiple eighteen-hole courses or a split routing, a configuration not uncommon among larger Chicago suburban clubs that expanded their facilities during periods of membership growth. The terrain in this part of Illinois is generally flat to gently rolling, typical of the glacial plain that characterizes much of the region. Courses here often incorporate water features—ponds, creeks, or drainage corridors—both for strategic interest and stormwater management.
Maddox and MacDonald's work would likely reflect the design sensibilities of their period, with tree-lined fairways, modest elevation changes, and greens that reward accurate approach play. Clubs in Orland Park and surrounding communities have historically served as social and recreational centers for local families, with golf complemented by dining facilities and member events. The North Course provides a traditional suburban golf experience within the broader Chicago metropolitan golf landscape.
Reviews
Fine course to play some twilight at. Barely saw anyone else around my group the whole time. Aerated greens recently and wasn’t aware before booking, wasn’t too bad though. Ball machine at the range really charged me $15 for a medium and gave me ~20 balls to split with someone else. Could’ve bought a box of Nitros instead.
