RAINTREE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Charlotte, NC, USA
Designed by Russell Breeden
North at Raintree Country Club, carved into the rolling landscape of South Charlotte, stands as a testament to traditional golf course design, a stark contrast to the area’s rapid development. This is not a course about length, but rather, strategic positioning and finesse, calling to mind a more cerebral game that requires shot making and problem solving.
Designed by George Cobb, with a later refresh by John LaFoy, the parkland layout unfolds through mature hardwoods and meticulously maintained Bermuda fairways. Favoring accuracy over raw power, the course presents a series of doglegs and undulating greens that reward thoughtful approaches. While it may not boast national championship pedigree, Raintree North provides a stern, and consistently enjoyable test for golfers of all skill levels, a fact not lost on its fiercely loyal membership.
Beyond the golf, Raintree North cultivates a uniquely convivial atmosphere. Members can often be found enjoying post-round conversation on the veranda, or within the clubhouse reliving the day's triumphs and near misses. The club’s robust calendar of social events and member tournaments solidifies its reputation as a true community hub within the Charlotte area.
A distinctive tradition, often whispered among members, is the "Raintree Ryder Cup," an annual member-guest event that mirrors the intensity and camaraderie of its professional counterpart. It’s a testament to the passionate spirit and enduring bonds forged on these fairways.
