JOCKEY KAU SAI CHAU PUBLIC GOLF COURSE
🇭🇰 Kau Sai Chau, Sai Kung, HK
Designed by Gary Player
The North Course at Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course occupies the northern portion of Kau Sai Chau Island in Sai Kung, Hong Kong. Designed by Gary Player and opened in 1995, it forms part of Hong Kong's first and only public golf facility, accessible by ferry from the mainland. The course was developed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to provide accessible golf to the general public in a region where private club membership is traditionally expensive and exclusive.
The routing takes advantage of the island's hilly terrain and coastal setting, with holes moving through varied elevations and offering views across the surrounding waters. The layout features typical Player design elements including strategic bunkering and greens that reward precise approach play. The course shares the island with the South Course, also designed by Player, and both layouts navigate the natural topography of this largely undeveloped island.
As a public facility in Hong Kong, Kau Sai Chau operates on an advance booking system and attracts a diverse range of golfers, from local residents to visitors seeking accessible golf in the territory. The courses have hosted various amateur and professional events over the years, contributing to competitive golf in the region. The ferry journey to reach the island adds a distinctive element to the experience, separating the golf from the urban density of Hong Kong proper.
