North at Firestone Country Club

The North Course at Firestone Country Club opened in 1969, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. as a companion to the club's famous South Course. Jones created the layout on rolling terrain characteristic of northeastern Ohio, incorporating mature tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering that define his architectural approach from this period. The course occupies land adjacent to the South Course within Firestone's expansive property, originally developed by tire magnate Harvey Firestone in the 1920s.

The routing moves through similar topography to its celebrated neighbor, with elevation changes that require thoughtful club selection and reward accurate iron play. Jones employed his trademark large, contoured greens protected by deep bunkers, and the design emphasizes positional play off the tee. Water comes into play on several holes, and the tree-lined corridors demand precision from tee to green. The North Course stretches to a length that challenges accomplished players while remaining accessible from forward tees.

While the South Course hosts professional tournaments and draws most public attention, the North Course serves as Firestone's primary member course and maintains a reputation as a strong test of golf in its own right. The club's membership includes business and civic leaders from the Akron area, reflecting the region's industrial heritage. Firestone's clubhouse facilities serve both courses, and the club maintains the parkland character and conditioning standards established across its layouts over decades of operation.
