DES MOINES GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 West Des Moines, IA, USA
Designed by Pete Dye
Des Moines Golf & Country Club's North Course is where Iowa golf history has been written and continues to evolve. A classic parkland layout traversing the rolling hills of West Des Moines, the course, while not long by modern standards, places a premium on strategic play and masterful iron work. Subtlety is the key, as small, undulating greens and deceptive elevation changes demand precise approaches and a keen understanding of the prevailing wind.
Originally conceived by Pete Dye in the late 1960s, the North Course was later refined by his son, P.B. Dye. These refinements, while maintaining the spirit of the original design, have enhanced playability and visual appeal. Fairways bordered by mature trees reward accuracy, and carefully positioned bunkers penalize anything less. The course has hosted its share of competitive events, including the 1999 U.S. Senior Open and the 2017 Solheim Cup, events that resonate with the club's deep commitment to championship golf.
While not always found on national lists, Des Moines Golf & Country Club is known for its deep and committed membership. It remains a vital part of the local golf scene, renowned for the unwavering passion of its players and the challenging, yet fair, test it presents. A well respected golf community.
