BLACKHORSE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Cypress, TX, USA
Designed by Jacobsen Hardy

The North Course at BlackHorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas, opened in 2001 as part of a 36-hole facility designed by the firm Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design. The Houston-based firm, led by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, created two distinct layouts on relatively flat terrain characteristic of the Gulf Coast region northwest of Houston. The North Course plays through native Texas landscape featuring stands of oak and pine, with water hazards and strategic bunkering defining many holes.
The routing incorporates several risk-reward opportunities, with water coming into play on multiple holes and forcing decisions off the tee and on approach shots. The course features generous landing areas balanced by well-protected greens, a design philosophy that rewards accurate iron play. Elevation changes are modest, typical of the coastal plain geography, but the design uses contouring and green complexes to create visual interest and strategic variety throughout the round.
BlackHorse operates as a daily-fee facility serving the northwest Houston metropolitan area, which has seen substantial residential and commercial growth over the past two decades. The club hosts local amateur events and provides a tournament-quality test for players of various skill levels. The North Course, along with its companion South Course, represents one of the more established public golf options in the Cypress area, where new development has brought numerous golf communities to what was once primarily rural land between Houston and the communities along Interstate 10.
