HALMSTAD GOLFKLUBB
🇸🇪 Halmstad, Halland, SE
Designed by Nils Sköld, Rafael Sundblom

Norra at Halmstad Golfklubb is the older of the club's two championship courses, designed by Rafael Sundblom and Nils Sköld and opened in 1930. The course occupies rolling terrain along Sweden's southwest coast in Halland, where the landscape combines mature pine forest with more open heathland character. Sundblom, one of Scandinavia's most influential early golf architects, created a routing that takes advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors, while Sköld's involvement helped establish the course's strategic framework during Swedish golf's formative period.
The layout moves through varied terrain, with several holes playing across or along ridges that provide views toward the Kattegat and the surrounding countryside. The design emphasizes placement and angles rather than pure length, with greens that reward accurate approach play and fairways that demand thoughtful positioning from the tee. Pine trees frame many holes without overly constricting play, and the course retains a classic parkland feel that reflects its pre-war origins.
Halmstad Golfklubb has hosted numerous Swedish national championships and international amateur events over the decades, establishing Norra as one of Sweden's traditional championship venues. The course is frequently ranked among the country's best layouts and remains a centerpiece of Swedish golf history. The club itself maintains a reputation for serious golf and a welcoming atmosphere, with a membership that includes players across all skill levels drawn to the quality and heritage of the Norra course.
