GOLF DE MOGADOR
🇲🇦 Essaouira, Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz, MA
Designed by Gary Player
The Nord course at Golf de Mogador sits along Morocco's Atlantic coast near Essaouira, a historic port city known for its strong ocean winds and dramatic seaside setting. Designed by Gary Player and opened in 2009, the layout occupies rolling duneland terrain that transitions between coastal exposure and more sheltered inland areas. The property benefits from natural elevation changes and indigenous vegetation, including argan trees native to this region of Morocco.
Player's routing takes advantage of the topography and prevailing winds, which blow consistently from the ocean and influence club selection and strategy throughout the round. Several holes play directly along elevated ground with views toward the Atlantic, while others move through valleys and lower-lying areas where the wind effects vary. The design incorporates wide fairways in places to accommodate the wind, though strategic bunkering and green complexes demand precision on approach shots.
Golf de Mogador operates as a resort facility that serves both visiting golfers and members, with the Nord course complemented by a shorter nine-hole layout on the property. The club reflects Morocco's growing golf infrastructure, particularly in the Marrakech-Essaouira corridor, where the climate allows year-round play. The course attracts European visitors drawn to the combination of links-style conditions, coastal scenery, and proximity to Essaouira's medina and cultural attractions. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of modern resort golf developments.
