PUERTO LOS CABOS GOLF CLUB
🇲🇽 San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, MX
Designed by Jack Nicklaus
The Nicklaus I course at Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club occupies a distinctive stretch of Baja California coastline where the Sea of Cortez meets the desert landscape characteristic of the Los Cabos region. Jack Nicklaus designed this layout to take advantage of the dramatic topography, routing holes through arroyos and along elevated plateaus that provide views across the water and surrounding terrain. The course opened in the mid-2000s as part of the broader Puerto Los Cabos resort development, which also includes a second eighteen designed by Greg Norman.
The routing moves between different landscape zones, with several holes playing directly along the coastline while others turn inland through more arid, desert terrain dotted with native vegetation including cardon cacti and palo blanco trees. The contrast between seaside and desert holes gives the round a varied character. Elevation changes throughout the property create strategic interest, with approach shots often played to greens set at different levels from the fairways. Bunkers are positioned to reflect the natural contours of the land, and the green complexes incorporate subtle breaks that reward local knowledge.
Puerto Los Cabos serves both resort guests and members, and the facility reflects the growth of golf tourism in the Los Cabos corridor over the past two decades. The course is maintained to accommodate year-round play in the region's warm, dry climate, and it functions as one of several Nicklaus designs in Mexico's resort destinations.
