Nicklaus at The Club at Carlton Woods

The Club at Carlton Woods features two championship courses in The Woodlands, a master-planned community north of Houston. The Nicklaus Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2001, represents the club's original layout. Nicklaus shaped the course through rolling, wooded terrain that distinguishes this property from the flatter coastal plain typical of the Houston area. The design incorporates substantial elevation changes and mature pine and hardwood forests that frame the holes and define the playing corridors.

The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and greens positioned to emphasize strategic approach angles. Water features appear throughout the layout, including lakes and streams that influence play on multiple holes. The course stretches over 7,300 yards from the championship tees, with generous fairway corridors balanced by well-positioned bunkers and the need for precise iron play into contoured, multi-tiered greens characteristic of Nicklaus designs.

Carlton Woods operates as a private residential club within The Woodlands community. The club added a second course, designed by Tom Fazio, which opened several years after the Nicklaus layout. The dual-course facility provides members with contrasting design philosophies and playing experiences.
