NEWPORT BEACH COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Newport Beach, CA, USA
Designed by William F., William Francis Bell, William Park Bell Sr.
Newport Beach Country Club is Southern California golf, distilled; a landscape where sun-drenched fairways meet the cool Pacific breeze, and where membership reflects a balance of relaxed elegance and competitive spirit.
Originally crafted in the late 1950s, this traditional layout meanders through the gently rolling terrain of Newport Beach, favoring strategic play over sheer power. While not a links course, its coastal location presents challenges familiar to those versed in seaside golf, with swirling winds that can demand creativity on approach shots. In 2016, Todd Eckenrode-Origins Golf Design, completed a masterful renovation, adding length, shaping strategic bunkers, and subtly undlating greens. The result is a course that retains its charm while demanding more from the modern player.
While the club's focus is on its vibrant membership, Newport Beach Country Club notably hosted the inaugural Toshiba Classic, a Champions Tour event, from 1995, solidifying its presence in the regional golf landscape. The club's convivial atmosphere is perhaps best reflected in its bustling patio scene, where post-round cocktails and sunset views are de rigueur – a perfect ending to a day spent navigating its classic, California fairways.
Reviews
Disappointed a little bit for a private course especially in Newport Beach. Everything was in good shape and the course was nice, but nothing felt too memorable or special
A little repepitive. Feels like you play the same hole 4 or 5 times. And it's not a great hole.
