NEW ORLEANS COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 New Orleans, LA, USA
Designed by Bobby Weed, George Turpie, MacCurrach Golf

New Orleans Country Club occupies a site in the Lakewood neighborhood along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. The club was established in 1913, making it one of the oldest private clubs in Louisiana. George Turpie designed the original course, which opened in 1914 on land that was relatively flat and characteristic of the coastal plain geography of southeastern Louisiana. The routing takes advantage of the lakefront setting, though the terrain itself offers minimal natural elevation change. Over the decades, the course has undergone several renovations to address evolving standards of play and maintenance practices suited to the subtropical climate.
Bobby Weed led a significant restoration and renovation project in the early 2000s, working to modernize the layout while respecting the original routing framework. More recently, MacCurrach Golf has been involved in further refinements and updates to the course. The design must contend with the challenges of the region's high water table, heavy rainfall, and warm-season grasses, which influence both playing conditions and maintenance strategies. Tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers define much of the character, with water hazards appearing on several holes.
The club has long served as a social and recreational center for New Orleans families, with a membership that reflects the city's established business and professional communities. The clubhouse and facilities support a traditional private club culture, including dining and social events that are central to the member experience. While not a major tournament venue on the national stage, the course hosts regional amateur competitions and club championships.
