New at Walton Heath Golf Club

Walton Heath Golf Club's New Course, designed by Herbert Fowler and opened in 1907, sits on the same elevated heathland plateau as its older sibling, the Old Course. The property occupies classic Surrey heath terrain south of London, characterized by sandy soil, heather, gorse, and mature stands of pine and silver birch. Fowler routed the New across gently rolling ground that offers similar playing characteristics to the Old, though many consider it slightly less severe in its bunkering and contours. The course stretches across open heathland with wide playing corridors and strategic bunkering that rewards thoughtful placement over raw distance.

The New Course has hosted significant amateur championships and professional events over the decades, though it operates somewhat in the shadow of the Old Course, which has held multiple major championships including the Ryder Cup and numerous European Tour events. Both courses share the same clubhouse and heathland setting, and members typically regard the New as an excellent complement—perhaps marginally more forgiving but still demanding precise iron play and sound course management. The layout features several strong two-shot holes where positioning off the tee determines the quality of approach available.

Walton Heath maintains a traditional members' club atmosphere with a distinguished history in British golf. The club has long attracted prominent figures from politics, business, and the military, and Winston Churchill was among its notable members. The heathland turf provides firm, fast conditions that reward ground game and creative shot-making throughout the playing season.
