NARIN & PORTNOO LINKS
🇮🇪 Portnoo, Donegal, IE
Designed by Eddie Connaughton, Hughie McNeill, Leo Wallace

Nairn & Portnoo Links is a testament to the rugged beauty of Donegal, where the wild Atlantic sculpts both the coastline and the golfer's experience. Born from the imagination of Old Tom Morris in 1920, the original nine holes were later expanded and reimagined by Eddie Hackett in the late 20th century. In recent years, Gil Hanse has breathed new life into the links, crafting a dynamic layout that embraces the dramatic dunesland.
The course unfolds across a captivating landscape of towering dunes and rolling fairways. Nairn & Portnoo favors those who can shape the ball with the wind, demanding strategic shot placement over brute force. Blind shots and cleverly contoured greens add to the challenge, testing a golfer’s course management skills. The ever-present sea breeze ensures no two rounds are ever quite the same, making it a captivating experience.
While not a regular host of major championships, Nairn & Portnoo holds a special place in the hearts of Irish golfers. The club maintains a more casual ethos and has a convivial membership known to enjoy a post-round pint at the clubhouse, with views overlooking the Atlantic. In fact, one cannot leave this place without partaking in some of the fresh fish served at the clubhouse sourced that very day from the very waters you just played along.
