MOUNTAIN RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 West Caldwell, NJ, USA
Designed by Donald Ross
Mountain Ridge Country Club, carved into the rolling hills of West Caldwell, holds a distinguished place as one of New Jersey's most revered courses, a testament to Golden Age design principles that have gracefully aged into the modern era. The undulating terrain, sculpted from the area's natural topography, presents a traditional parkland layout where strategic play is rewarded over sheer power. Gentle doglegs, subtly elevated greens, and mature tree-lined fairways frame a course that subtly challenges every aspect of a golfer's game.
Designed by Donald Ross, Mountain Ridge opened in 1929 and retains the legendary architect's signature features: challenging green complexes and strategic bunkering that demand careful consideration on every approach. Later renovations, most notably, those overseen by Robert Trent Jones Sr. ensured the course remained relevant for the evolving game while preserving Ross's original vision.
While Mountain Ridge has not hosted major professional championships, it has been a stalwart of regional and state amateur competitions, providing a stern test for New Jersey's finest golfers. It has remained a respected venue, consistently recognized for its architectural integrity and challenging, yet fair, playing experience.
