LODGE AT VENTANA CANYON
🇺🇸 Tucson, AZ, USA
Designed by Andy Banfield, Tom Fazio
Mountain at Lodge at Ventana Canyon clings to the Santa Catalina Mountains, its fairways carved into the Sonoran Desert in a way that feels both audacious and reverential. This layout presents a stark contrast to manicured resort courses, demanding strategic thought over brute force.
Tom Fazio sculpted the Mountain Course, capitalizing on the dramatic elevation changes and natural arroyos. Errant shots are punished severely by the unforgiving desert scrub, making accuracy a virtue. The short par-4 18th, with its approach to a green framed by a cascading waterfall, provides a memorable, if potentially nerve-wracking, finish. Ventana Canyon offers the experience that few can match and fewer still forget.
The Mountain Course, while not on every national golf aficionado's bucket list, commands a loyal following among Tucson residents and Ventana Canyon members. The club’s relaxed atmosphere encourages both competitive play and camaraderie. Post-round, the Ventana Canyon grill is a popular spot, known for its hearty southwestern fare and stunning views of the city lights twinkling below.
