BROADMOOR RESORT
🇺🇸 Colorado Springs, CO, USA
Designed by Arnold Palmer, Ed Seay
The Mountain Course at The Broadmoor opened in 1976 as the resort's third eighteen-hole layout, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay. Built at the highest elevation of The Broadmoor's golf offerings, the course sits in the foothills west of Colorado Springs with views of Cheyenne Mountain and the surrounding Front Range. The routing takes advantage of the natural terrain, incorporating elevation changes and mountain topography into the design strategy.
The course plays through a landscape of ponderosa pines and native grasses, with fairways that move across rolling and sometimes steep terrain. Water comes into play on several holes, and the elevation—over 6,500 feet above sea level—affects both distance and ball flight. The design reflects Palmer's playing philosophy, rewarding aggressive shots while offering strategic options for more conservative approaches. Several holes require careful club selection given the combination of elevation change and altitude.
The Mountain Course serves as one of three championship layouts at The Broadmoor, alongside the East and West courses. The resort has a long golf history dating to 1918, and the Mountain Course extended that tradition into a more rugged, naturalistic setting compared to the resort's parkland courses closer to the main hotel. The course remains part of The Broadmoor's golf operations, accessible to resort guests and members, and contributes to the property's reputation as a multi-course golf destination in the Rocky Mountain region.
