MOUNT WOLSELEY HOTEL, SPA AND COUNTRY CLUB
🇮🇪 Tullow, Carlow, IE
Designed by Christy O'Connor Jr.
Mount Wolseley occupies rolling parkland in County Carlow, designed by Christy O'Connor Jr. and opened in the late 1990s as part of a hotel and spa resort. The course sits on the former estate of the Wolseley family, with mature trees and the River Slaney defining much of the property's character. O'Connor routed the eighteen holes across varied terrain that includes elevated tees, natural water features, and strategic bunkering typical of his design approach during this period.
The layout plays through a mix of open parkland and wooded sections, with several holes running along or crossing the river. O'Connor incorporated the estate's natural contours to create elevation changes and visual interest throughout the round. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, though multiple tee options accommodate different skill levels. Water comes into play on numerous holes, and the bunkering emphasizes positional play off the tee.
Mount Wolseley serves as the centerpiece of the resort property, which includes the hotel and spa facilities. The course hosts regional amateur competitions and society outings, functioning as both a members' club and a destination for visiting golfers touring Ireland's southeast. The parkland setting and mature landscaping distinguish it from links courses elsewhere in Ireland, offering a different style of golf in a relatively accessible location between Dublin and the southern coast.
