KANANASKIS COUNTRY GOLF COURSE
🇨🇦 Kananaskis, Alberta, CA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones
Mount Lorette, one of two courses at Kananaskis Country Golf Course, is a testament to Alberta's enduring appeal as a golfing destination carved from the Rockies. Opened in 1983 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., it presents a quintessential mountain parkland experience.
The terrain is characterized by generous fairways framed by towering pines, and the course rewards power players with expansive landing areas, but demands accurate approach shots to undulating greens well-guarded by water and bunkers. Lorette favors a strategic, rather than purely bomb-and-gouge approach. The course's setting is stunning, with every hole seemingly framed by the majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies.
While Kananaskis hasn't hosted major professional championships, its enduring popularity among Albertan golfers is reflected in its consistently busy tee sheet. The 2013 floods devastated both courses, but their meticulous restoration speaks to their importance in the regional golf landscape, reopening after a complete reimagining in 2018.
Reviews
Must play if you’re in the area, but the Mt. Kidd course on the same property is a better course.
Mt Lorette is the 2nd course on property at Kananaskis. Compared to Mt. Kidd, it is not nearly as scenic, but still some unreal views. Overall the general preference is Kidd > Lorette Out of 10 rounds - play 7 on Kidd and 3 on Lorette
Kananaskis (Mount Lorette) is a great mountain golf course with some amazing views. It's not nearly as good as the other course at Kananaskis (Mount Kidd), but does make for an epic 36 hole day. The course is a little tighter compared to Mount Kidd, which is fine, but I prefer slightly wider corridors. If you are willing to put in the effort to get a tee time, it is definitely worth a trip to the Canadian Rockies to play here!
