MOUNT JULIET GOLF COURSE
🇮🇪 Thomastown, Kilkenny, IE
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

Mount Juliet occupies a historic 1,500-acre estate along the River Nore in County Kilkenny, approximately 90 minutes south of Dublin. Jack Nicklaus designed the course in 1991, routing it through mature parkland that includes centuries-old trees, stone walls, and the natural contours of the Irish countryside. The estate itself dates to the Norman period, and the restored manor house serves as the centerpiece of what has become one of Ireland's prominent golf resorts.
The course measures over 7,200 yards from the championship tees and features the strategic design elements characteristic of Nicklaus's work: generous fairways that reward accurate driving, large undulating greens protected by deep bunkers, and water hazards that come into play on several holes. The River Nore influences the routing on multiple occasions, most notably on the closing stretch where it runs alongside the 18th hole. The parkland setting provides a contrast to Ireland's more famous links courses, with tree-lined fairways and a more sheltered playing environment.
Mount Juliet has hosted professional tournament golf since its opening, including multiple Irish Opens on the European Tour during the 1990s and 2000s. The course returned to the European Tour schedule in recent years, bringing elite professional competition back to the property. The club operates as part of a resort that includes accommodation, spa facilities, and additional recreational amenities, serving both members and visiting golfers who come to experience Nicklaus's only Irish design.
