MOUNT AIRY CASINO RESORT
🇺🇸 Mount Pocono, PA, USA
Designed by Dan Schlegel, Hal Purdy

Mount Airy sits within the Pocono Mountains resort community of Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, where the course serves as the centerpiece amenity for the Mount Airy Casino Resort. The original eighteen holes were designed by Hal Purdy and opened in the 1970s, reflecting the era's approach to mountain resort golf with routing that works through rolling, forested terrain typical of the Poconos region. Dan Schlegel later contributed renovations and updates to modernize the layout while preserving its fundamental character as an accessible resort course.
The routing moves through elevation changes and wooded corridors, with fairways carved from dense northeastern hardwood forests that provide natural definition and seasonal color. Water features appear on several holes, and the property's topography creates opportunities for both downhill and uphill approaches. The design emphasizes playability for resort guests and members of varying skill levels, with multiple tee sets that accommodate different abilities while still presenting strategic interest for accomplished players.
As part of a full-service casino resort, Mount Airy functions primarily as a destination golf experience for visitors to the Pocono Mountains region. The course complements the property's broader hospitality offerings and serves both resort guests and local golfers seeking mountain golf within reasonable driving distance of the Philadelphia and New York metropolitan areas. The setting provides the forested seclusion characteristic of Pocono golf, with the course integrated into the resort's overall recreational programming.
Reviews
Hands down the dumbest golf course I have ever played. Attempted template course where the holes look nothing like the templates AND are almost unplayable. Hit a pitching wedge off the tee on a 600 yard par 5. Maybe 10 blind shots with trouble. Just a nightmare.
