MOSSY OAK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 West Point, MS, USA
Designed by Gil Hanse
Mossy Oak Golf Club sits on land owned by the outdoor lifestyle brand of the same name in West Point, Mississippi. Gil Hanse designed the course, which opened in 2010 on rolling terrain characteristic of the region's transition between the Mississippi Delta flatlands to the west and the Appalachian foothills to the east. The property features native hardwoods, natural wetlands, and elevation changes that Hanse used to create a routing with strategic variety and visual interest.
The design reflects Hanse's preference for ground-game options and natural contours rather than heavily manufactured features. Fairways move across the property's ridges and valleys, and greens are typically open in front to accommodate running approaches. Bunkers are placed to influence angles of play rather than simply frame landing areas. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees but offers multiple teeing grounds to accommodate different skill levels.
Mossy Oak Golf Club operates as a semi-private facility, allowing public play alongside member access. The club reflects the brand's hunting and outdoor heritage in its aesthetic and atmosphere, with the clubhouse and grounds incorporating rustic design elements. The course has hosted regional amateur events and serves as a golf destination for visitors to northeast Mississippi, a part of the state without the density of courses found in coastal or metropolitan areas.
Reviews
The stay & play at the cottages along 10 make Mossy Oak a must play experience. The golf course is one of the Southeast’s best modern tracks, inspiring some of the things we see coming out of the South Carolina boom — in my opinion. I’m not sure if I’ll ever play it again, but it gave me great memories on a couple different trips. Hail State. Oh, and best way to experience West Point is during a baseball weekend in Starkville with a dinner at Anthony’s back in West Point — BYOB!
