TROON NORTH GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Designed by Jay Morrish, Tom Weiskopf
Monument at Troon North, carved into the Sonoran Desert of Scottsdale, is a testament to the enduring appeal of desert golf. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, this course, opened in 1995, presents a modern interpretation of strategic play. Fairways are generous, yet framed by the untamed desert landscape, rewarding thoughtful positioning over brute strength. A particular characteristic is how the desert washes into the fairways in places, creating natural hazards that demand respect and strategic thinking on approaches.
Weiskopf's design subtly favors a right-to-left ball flight, allowing players to utilize the natural contours of the land. The course’s challenge lies not only in its length but also in the subtle undulations of the greens, requiring a deft touch and careful reading. This is a course where ambition is tempered by prudence, demanding more than just power and distance.
Troon North is also known for its close-knit community of members, drawn to the club's unpretentious atmosphere and unwavering commitment to the game's traditions. While it may not boast a history of hosting major championships, its reputation rests on the enduring quality of its design and the loyalty of its devoted following. It is said the 18th hole is one of the most photographed closing holes in the area due to the Monument rock formation.
Reviews
Was shocked at the shape of the greens. Ball marks everywhere and somehow soaked. Was not worth the price they charge. Views were the only part really worth the experience
My friend put it best as we were leaving the property “that course felt like we just watched a really good cover band.” It’s nice! Great greens! Friendly staff!
Fun round of golf. Pricey.
So good
