MONTREUX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Reno, NV, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

Montreux Golf & Country Club sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada range south of Reno, occupying elevated terrain that overlooks the Washoe Valley. Jack Nicklaus designed the course in the late 1990s, routing it across rolling, high-desert landscape where ponderosa pines and native grasses frame fairways that move through significant elevation changes. The property's location at roughly 5,600 feet above sea level affects both distance and playing conditions, with the thin air and typically firm turf producing longer carries than golfers might expect at sea level.
The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with several holes playing along ridgelines and others dropping into draws and valleys. Views extend west toward the Sierra crest and east across the high desert basin. Nicklaus incorporated strategic bunkering and generous landing areas, though the elevation changes and prevailing winds add complexity to club selection and approach play. Water features appear on several holes, and the green complexes vary in size and contour depending on the length and character of each hole.
Montreux has hosted professional events on the PGA Tour Champions, including the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in the early 2000s. The club operates as a private facility with a membership that includes both full-time residents and those who maintain seasonal homes in the Reno-Tahoe area. The setting provides a mountain golf experience distinct from the desert courses found elsewhere in Nevada, with cooler temperatures and a landscape shaped by higher elevation and proximity to alpine terrain.
